The M.E.A. is responsible for the maintenance of the website www.mea.ca (hereinafter the “Website”). This Privacy Policy explains how the M.E.A. handles the personal information that you provide to it on the Website. Unless otherwise specifically noted, this Privacy Policy does not apply to personal information collected from you offline or to third-party Web sites to which the M.E.A. Website may link. The use of the Website is subject to the present Privacy Policy and the Online Terms of Use.

The M.E.A. collects information online in two ways:

For example, you may submit your name, postal address, e-mail address, and/or other information in order to update your employee file (if applicable), receive information or respond to a survey. To protect your privacy, you should not provide the M.E.A. with any information that is not specifically requested.

The M.E.A. may collect information about your visits to the Website without you actively submitting such information. In what circumstances will the M.E.A. collect and use personal information?

The M.E.A. will use the personal information you provide through the Website to manage your employee file (if applicable), respond to your questions, and provide you with efficient customer service. After you have entered personal information into a form or data field on the Website, the M.E.A. may use certain identifying technologies to allow the Website to “remember” your personal preferences, such as sections of the Website that you visit frequently and, if you choose, your user ID.

Does the M.E.A. consolidate personal information?

The M.E.A. may consolidate the personal information of users of the Website. Furthermore, the M.E.A. may consolidate information in a non-identifiable form (aggregate/anonymous data) to help better design the Website and improve search capacities.

What choices do I have about how the M.E.A. collects and uses personal information about me?

Personal information can be accessed by a restricted number of M.E.A. employees. M.E.A. employees are trained on the importance of privacy and how to handle and manage personal information appropriately and securely. Also, it is the M.E.A.'s practice to seek your consent where required by applicable law if you are registering for a program which is conducted in conjunction with another company that may require access to your personal information. In addition, the M.E.A.'s practice is to require its contractors to keep your personal information confidential and to use your personal information only to perform functions for the M.E.A. by its contractors.

Does the M.E.A. share personal information with third parties?

Except as otherwise stated in this, the M.E.A. will not transfer your personal information to third parties unless you have opted into this disclosure. The M.E.A. may disclose your personal information without your opt-in to third party service providers who work as contractors for the M.E.A. It is the M.E.A.'s practice to require such third party service providers to keep your personal information confidential and to use your personal information only to perform functions for the M.E.A. and in accordance with the M.E.A’s instructions. Furthermore, the M.E.A. reserves the right to disclose your personal information to respond to authorized information requests from government authorities or when otherwise required by law.

How does the M.E.A. protect personal information?

It is the M.E.A.'s practice to secure the Website that collects personal information; however, the confidentiality of personal information transmitted over the Internet cannot be guaranteed. The M.E.A. urges you to exercise caution when transmitting personal information over the Internet. The M.E.A. cannot guarantee that unauthorized third parties will not gain access to your personal information; therefore, when submitting personal information to the Website, you must weigh both the benefits and the risks. How may I access, modify or correct my personal information?

You may request access to your personal information held by the M.E.A. at any time. With your support, the M.E.A. will keep personal information accurate and up-to-date. You may modify or correct your personal information by yourself via the Website or by communicating with the Dispatch centre.

How long will the M.E.A. store my personal information?

The M.E.A. stores its employee's personal information indefinitely as they are necessarily incidental to files which have a historical or archival value. Some information will only be stored as long as needed to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, subject to applicable data retention periods imposed upon the M.E.A. by applicable law.

How will I know whether the M.E.A. has updated this Privacy Policy?

If the M.E.A. changes its privacy practices, an updated version of this Privacy Policy will reflect those changes and we will notify you of such changes by updating the effective date at the top of the new Privacy Policy. Without prejudice to your rights under applicable law, the M.E.A. reserves the right to modify this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect technological advancements, legal and regulatory changes.
