After just one year of activity, the National Maritime Group (NMG) is already a leading voice. Established to make political decision-makers aware of supply chain issues and propose solutions to make Canada more competitive, the Group has met with all Ministers of Transport since it was created. It has maintained open channels of communication with government representatives and decision makers, even during labour conflicts and service interruptions. The Group’s credibility was established quickly; it is already a reference for decision-makers, who seek out its opinions. Members of the Group also co-lead technical briefings with Transport Canada on draft legislation governing transportation activities.
The policy committee, which makes recommendations and proposals on federal policies and legislation as well as supply chain issues, got underway in 2024. Work will continue with stakeholders against the backdrop of the 2025 election. The committee will focus on four priorities—data and technology, competitiveness, infrastructure as well as work and productivity.
The National Maritime Group represents nearly 100 private sector maritime employers and operators from 14 ports across five Canadian provinces.
