At the Maritime Employers Association, employees are trained throughout their careers. Whether employees are receiving initial training, training in view of changing classification or to refresh certain concepts, MEA ensures the development of longshore workers and checkers.

The Harbour Training Centre offers comprehensive training and skills development to the workforce assigned to load and unload ships on port terminals.

PRESENTATION OF THE HARBOUR TRAINING CENTRE

The only of its kind in Québec, the Centre offers a range of training that meets the organization’s needs regarding workforce skills development.

All training is developed by MEA content experts. To offer the most realistic training experience possible, the Centre is equipped with simulators that reproduce several scenarios, including inclement weather conditions and complex situations.

MEA port employees are trained on the machinery at the Centre, then directly on the docks.

In some cases, the Harbour Training Centre obtains certifications from industry leaders to be able to distribute this training content (fall prevention and confined spaces). Furthermore, all training is recognized by Emploi-Québec, in accordance with the certificate of registration issued by this government body.

MEA and its Harbour Training Centre are proud to train a qualified, effective workforce, focused on the real needs of its members.

THE INSTRUCTORS

The instructors keep current and follow technological advances by alternating between their role of instructor and their active participation in operations on port terminals. Innovation is one of our central values and it is important to us that it is also reflected in our training.

MEA relies on a team of more than seventy experienced instructors, experts in their respective fields, who develop and distribute training content.
