Did you know that the MEA provides training to all port employees in the ports it serves, from the time they are hired to when they retire? Each year, Anick Fortier’s experienced team provides more than 3,500 training sessions. In total, approximately 600 port employees pass through the Harbour Training Center each year.
What training?
When new employees arrive at the Port of Montréal, they undergo 10 days of basic and integration training. New employees must become familiar with the 26 km of docks, master their work tools and get to know the port world in order to do their jobs safely and effectively.
Technical training is provided at the Harbour Training Centre to employees acquiring new skills. Employees then operate the specialized machinery on the docks under the supervision of an instructor. Fortunately, advanced tools such as high-performance simulators are available to train our operators on specialized machinery.
Training includes recurring training such as the basic occupational health and safety course. Employees are required to take this course every three years for a refresher and apply best practices every day to prevent injuries and accidents.
Anick Fortier’s team of 70 instructors, five advisors and one coordinator are responsible for this mission.
